THIS IS A ONE TIME SELL AT THIS PRICE - ONCE SOLD GONE FOREVER WHAT IS A JAPAN "MINI-LP-SLEEVE" CD? Have you ever lamented the loss of one of the 20th Century's great art forms, the 12" vinyl LP jacket? Then "mini-LP-sleeve" CD's may be for you. Mini-sleeve CDs are manufactured in Japan under license. The disc is packaged inside a 135MM X 135MM cardboard precision-miniature replica of the original classic vinyl-LP album. Also, anything contained in the original LP, such as gatefolds, booklets, lyric sheets, posters, printed LP sleeves, stickers, embosses, special LP cover paper/inks/textures and/or die cuts, are precisely replicated and included. An English-language lyric sheet is always included, even if the original LP did not have printed lyrics. Then, there's the sonic quality: Mini-sleeves have dedicated remastering (20-Bit, 24-Bit, DSD, K2/K2HD, and/or HDCD), and can often be superior to the audio on the same title anywhere else in the world. There also may be bonus tracks unavailable elsewhere. Each Japan mini-sleeve has an "obi" ("oh-bee"), a removable Japan-language promotional strip. The obi lists the Japan street date of that particular release, the catalog number, the mastering info, and often the original album's release date. Bonus tracks are only listed on the obi, maintaining the integrity of the original LP artwork. The obi's are collectable, and should not be discarded. All mini-sleeve releases are tremendously limited editions mainly pressed on future orders only and once released immediately out of print. This fact along with other latter features we've mentioned make these titles rare collectibles that sell in the collectors markets for $100's of dollars apiece. Special VERY RARE LIMITED EDITION ONLY PRODUCED ON FUTURES FOR THIS ONE TIME PRESSING -- were only available in Japan. . TITLES ARE - OUTSIDE - DOUBLE CD SET WITH A LOT OF BONUS TRACKS - Most every Bowie fan has at least one album they claim hasn't received its due, and I claim this one. After about a decade of fading from relevance, Bowie once again collaborated with Brian Eno and crafted this masterpiece that stands up to his strongest work from the seventies. Always one to refashion himself when needed, Bowie took several musical cues from techno and industrial. However, rather than simply catering to the trendy music of the time, Bowie used elements of the newer styles to once again reinvigorate his unique musical vision. The album was originally supposed to be the first in a series, telling the story of Nathan Adler, which involved kidnap and murder (I think). Ultimately the series was not continued and fully understanding the narrative is in no way essential to enjoying the songcraft. "A Small Plot of Land" is an amazing song with avant-garde piano reminiscent of "Aladdin Sane". An alternate version of this song was featured in the film "Basquiat", in which Bowie appeared as Andy Warhol. "I'm Deranged" is another standout that was also featured in a movie, opening and closing David Lynch's "Lost Highway". "Strangers When We Meet", the closing track, is a timeless classic that recalls some of Bowie's better work from the early eighties. Although I've given a few songs special notice, there is not a weak track on the album. The music is extremely well-produced and intricately layered. The vocals are strong and the lyrics are cryptic and interesting. "Outside" stands up to Bowie's best work, and my guess is that fans who appreciate the Berlin Trilogy will take to this one as well. Nothing To Be Desired REALITY DOUBLE CD SET WITH A LOT OF BONUS TRACKS Track Listings - REALITY is a great art album. Bowie is a painter using sounds and textures, and he removes himself from genres. Yes this CD ranges from techno, industrial and jazz - often in one song. It's a complete statement, and a wholly satisfying journey. Tony Visconti helps produce one of Bowie's best releases in this or any decade. The whole affair begins strongly with NEW KILLER STAR - a rocking song with a hook. Bowie covers "PABLO PICASSO" by Johnathan Ritchman which some may remember off the REPO MAN soundtrack. It wanders in the same vein and winds up with an astro lounge ballad called BRING ME THE DISCO KING. Is it a dig at 70s pop, or a paranoid vision of today? Probably both. This one seems less about his age, and more about the state of the world - an assault on consumerism (both his own and yours) can be found on TRY SOME, BUY SOME or SHE'LL DRIVE THE BIG CAR. NEVER GET OLD is more a statement that we will never have enough than railing against age. The lyrics are pure poetry, and the music and singing is pure Bowie. He's found new life lately, and he still intrigues and challenges his listeners after well over 3 decades. It's a glittering gem of an album. A well expressed work in a world that often gives us singles and sound bytes. Bowie refuses to toss out just one or two hits. This is solid from start to finish. And his best since his last album 1. It's No Game (No.2) STATION TO STATION - THE ANOTHER RARE ONE WITHIN THE COLLECTION AND SELLS FOR AS MUCH AS $900 IN THE SEALED COLLECTORS MARKET Limited Edition Japanese pressing of this album comes housed in a miniature LP sleeve - After the success of the dance hits "Fame" and "Young Americans" (both off 1975's YOUNG AMERICANS ), Bowie seemed to step back, ponder the future of rock, and then turn up the guitars and the art-rock sensibilities and make a completely engaging and evocative album. From the epic title track (introducing the Thin White Duke character and building into an incendiary rocker) to the irresistible "Golden Years" (another dance hit) and on to the physically wrenching and funk-drenched "Stay," the soul of David Bowie is pretty much meshed into every track. The playful "TVC15" takes the listener on a bumpy ride into unholy tech-love, and the gorgeous "Wild is the Wind" and "Word on a Wing" have Bowie stepping out of his rocker persona and into sensual crooner mode. Strong from beginning to end. 1. Station to Station 2. Golden Years 3. Word on a Wing 4. TVC 15 5. Stay 6. Wild Is the Wind YOUNG AMERICANS - With 1975's Young Americans , David Bowie chose to head in yet another "new direction," this time extrapolating on the slick disco-soul vibe that characterized 1974's DAVID LIVE . Surrounded by an army of backup singers (including LUTHER VANDROSS ) and smooth session players, Bowie actually makes the stylistic affectation work on three of the songs--"Fame," "Young Americans," and "Can You Hear Me." The rest of the record suffers from a dearth of quality songwriting; all the tasty licks in the world can't disguise the fact that "Fascination," "Win," "Somebody Up There Likes Me," and "Right" are basically empty-headed disco vamps. (And the less said about the overwrought cover of the Beatles' "Across the Universe," the better.) A necessary transitional step to Station to Station , perhaps, but not a great record 1. Young Americans 2. Win 3. Fascination 4. Right 5. Somebody Up There Likes Me 6. Across the Universe 7. Can You Hear Me 8. Fame LODGER - Bowie's "DJ" is the stunner on this one. Bowie, as you may recall, was one of the first artists to perform on video, pre-MTV days. Bowie is portrayed as a DJ thrashing about, tearing up his studio. "I've got believers, believing me," rings throughout. "Fantastic Voyage" could be heard playing in Hollywood theaters before movie showings back in 1979. "I Pray Ole" is not on the original album. "Boys Keep Swinging" was popular in L.A., and a remake by Susanna Hoffs was recently produced for a tribute album to Bowie. "Look Back in Anger" is passionate and evokes images of angels and "If God was one of us" video imagery. The incredibly fast-paced "African Night Flight" is a bit unidentifiable for most of us earthlings, but Bowie must have travelled for this one. "Repetition" is a sad account of an abused wife. "Red Sails" has a cool surf-time beat interspersed with Bowiespeak: "fa-fa-fa-fa-fa, fa-fa-far away," and a broken up, "one-two" and then "three-four." Bowie's voice is broken up, and yet, it flows with the melody. Sounded very experimental for circa 1979, and today. Red Sails gives images of a boy sailing and blue skies and we're not sure what happens after that. 1. Fantastic Voyage 2. African Night Flight 3. Move On 4. Yassassin (Turkish For: Long Live) 5. Red Sails 6. D.J. 7. Look Back in Anger 8. Boys Keep Swinging 9. Repetition 10. Red Money & TONIGHT - 1. Loving the Alien 2. Don't Look Down 3. God Only Knows 4. Tonight 5. Neighborhood Threat 6. Blue Jean 7. Tumble and Twirl 8. I Keep Forgetting 9. Dancing with the Big Boys E-BAY STORE .
